The Historic Preservation Fund

Purpose:
This field of interest fund was created by Edith S. Bingham in 1986 to support the preservation of prehistoric and historic resources in Louisville and Jefferson County.

Who Can Apply?
Grants are awarded to nonprofit organizations that are defined as tax-exempt under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code and offer a program that meets the criteria for the fund. Public and private schools are also eligible to apply.

The Community Foundation does not award grants from the Historic Preservation Fund to individuals, nor does the Foundation generally award grants for operating costs, sectarian purposes, endowments, capital campaigns, special events or awards.

Application Process

  1. Determine whether your organization’s project is closely aligned with the purpose of The Historic Preservation Fund.  The Historic Preservation Fund was created to support the preservation of prehistoric and historic resources in Louisville and Jefferson County.

  2. Obtain Application Form – Applications are available in April of each year. After that time, download the Historic Preservation Fund Grant Guidelines and Application, or call the Community Foundation at 502-585-4649 for a mailed copy.

  1. Submit Written Application — The organization must follow the guidelines provided by the Community Foundation in order for an application to be considered. The proposal will be reviewed by the Grants Committee of the Board of Directors. Grant decisions will be based on the project’s relevance to the focus of the Historic Preservation Fund, as well as the quality of planning, the project’s potential impact, the financial and management strengths of the organization, the amount of the request and other relevant factors. The organization will be notified of the decision made by the Board of Directors.

  2. Deadline - Completed applications are due by Monday, June 15, 2009 at 4:00 p.m.
