Funds of the Foundation
The Community Foundation of Louisville is made up of our donors – individuals, families and organizations – who have set up over 1,100 named charitable funds to help them accomplish their charitable goals.  For more donor profiles and the funds they’ve created, check out our annual report.  If you’d like to receive an annual report in the mail, click here.

Types of funds donors have set up are:

Unrestricted Funds:  These funds have been set up by donors who want a fund that can always be used to meet our area’s most pressing issues and opportunities.  Our Community Grants program is made possible by donors who have established Unrestricted Funds.

Field of Interest Funds: Donors set up Field of Interest Funds to support a broad area of charitable interest, such as historic preservation, or a geographic area for which they have a particular concern, such as the county where they live.

Donor Advised Funds:  Donors that create a Donor Advised Fund retain a high level of involvement.  They often involve their children and grandchildren in their fund to pass along their personal values to their families.

Depository Funds: Many of our donors simplify their current giving and maximize their tax savings by using a Depository Fund.  Donors often set a “budget” for their annual charitable giving and contribute that amount to their Depository fund using a block of appreciated stock. They later recommend distributions to their favorite charities throughout the year.

Scholarship Funds:  The Foundation holds over 80 Scholarship Funds to help students achieve their educational goals.  While often for young people, some donors have set up funds to help those who want to continue education later in life.  Many of our funds have been established to honor a loved one.

Designated Funds:  Our donors that establish Designated Funds have set up a way for specific charities to receive ongoing grant distributions from their fund.  The Community Foundation monitors these grants to ensure that the donor’s original objectives are fulfilled.

Legacy Funds:  Many of our donors have already made plans for a charitable fund that will be created following their lifetime.  By working with our staff to plan all the details of their future fund, they are assured that their wishes will be carried out as they desire.

Life Income Funds: Life income funds are charitable gifts that provide income to the donor or the donor’s designated beneficiaries for life, while also providing for the future of a favorite charity and the community.  Our donors often find that this is a true “win-win” situation for everyone.
