The Change Makers Grant Partnership

The Community Foundation of Louisville formed The Change Makers Grant Partnership in 2008 with the Baltimore-based Annie E. Casey Foundation and the UPS Foundation in Atlanta. The three-year partnership is targeting critical needs and improving education for the residents of four inner-city Louisville neighborhoods: California, Phoenix Hill, Shelby Park and Smoketown. The three foundations are working closely with a programmatic partner, Making Connections Louisville, a ten-year initiative of the Annie E. Casey Foundation that has been operating with great success in the four targeted neighborhoods.

The Change Makers Partnership will award a total of $1.8 million over three years to provide seed funding for long-term solutions to identified needs in the four neighborhoods. Four grants were awarded in 2009 to the following projects:

Change Makers at The California Collaborative
This project is working to make the California neighborhood a green and wireless community with a vibrant arts beat. The Collaborative is a grassroots initiative guided by the people who live, work and worship in the neighborhood. Participants are developing strategies in a variety of areas such as the arts, housing preservation, economic development, youth leadership and capacity building. Membership groups are growing, and residents are invited to join by contacting Michael Dean, the Neighborhood Management Coordinator, at 719.7164 or michaeld@ndhc.org.
