On January 22, the Community Foundation awarded a grant of $25,000 to EDGE Outreach, a Louisville-based organization that is leading the effort to get clean water to the devastated country of Haiti in the aftermath of the deadly earthquake that occurred on January 12, 2010.

EDGE Outreach is responding to the Haitian disaster by deploying first-response water filtration and purification systems, installers, and trainers to Haiti. The EDGE Water Relief team arrived on the ground in Port-Au-Prince and began work on January 20, but the demand for clean water far exceeds this initial emergency response.

EDGE is seeking $500,000 to acquire and deploy additional water filtration and chlorination units, and to maintain the units they have currently installed. Their total effort will have the potential to provide pure drinking water for up to a quarter million people.
